Cutrer From France

From http://jliptrap.us/gen/cutrer.htm :

"Several Couturier descendants possess copies of an unsigned, undocumented paper, also on file at the South Carolina Historical Society, which says "ISAIAH COUTURIER fled from Southern France with his sons, Daniel Couturier and Jacob Couturier, and were among the French Protestants in Bristol, England, in 1688. ISAIAH left as his last French address 'Les Roches de Mecher, Xaintonge.' Xaintonge was later Saintonge, an ancient province south of La Rochelle, Meschers...it is beyond where the Gironde River widens."

After Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes in 1685, about 50,000 Huguenots escaped religious persecution in France and headed to England where they were welcome. You can read more at https://www.huguenotsociety.org.uk/history.html and https://huguenotsociety.org/
